New Window

One of the greatest thing about living in a falling down ruin of a house is that you feel absolute freedom to modify it on a whim. When a house starts out as bad as ours, any change is an improvement.

I wanted a window facing the creek in my office, so we're cutting one. Boom! We just grabbed a crowbar and a couple of hammers and started whacking away at the wall. Destruction is fun. (You can see the progress of this on my webcam.) In the process, we've discovered a couple of long-dead termite colonies. (I think they starved to death.) For the most part, though, the wall was in better shape than I expected.

In time, there will be a couple of beautiful French windows that match the other pair in my office, but for now we're just cutting a hole I can see out of, and covering it with plexiglass.

Life is good.
