Horror Games and Bad Parenting

I let the girls watch me play Clock Tower 3 ($5 on ebay) a bit yesterday. I don't mind a moderate amount of violence in the girls diet; I'm appalled by parents who shun the classic Looney Tunes cartoons because they're not politically correct. But I do try not to freak them out too much.

When a ghastly cut scene surprised me, I was sure I had stepped well beyond the freak out limit. But Lyra Meadow seemed unbothered by the grisly scene she had just seen. Since a bad guy had just beat a little girl to death with a hammer (yes, I know, I'm a bad parent), I was curious about why this didn't bother her. So I asked.

She laughed. "It's so fake. When he hit her with the hammer, blood started spurting from her head -- and hammers aren't sharp!"

I am such a bad parent.
