Library Card

Mira (7) got her first library card today, and selected a book about dinosaurs. That's my girl!

I got my first library card when I was 7, too, in Chicago. They had a rule that kids could only check out 3 books at a time, but if they brought them back on time, they could check out as many as they wanted. Naturally, I checked out 3 books, read them, and returned them the same day. (Life is good when you're within walking distance to a public library.) So for my second batch of books I checked out, oh, 30 books.

It turns out that it was quite a struggle for me to carry even 15 books. I solved this by picking up half the stack, walking forward 20 feet, setting the stack down, and going back for the second half. Crossing the street took quite many steps. Probably took me an hour to get home, and I was pooped. After that I limited myself to 10 or so at a time.

Don't bite off more than you enjoy chewing.
