General Electric
I bought a little bit of General Electric (GE).
It's a little overpriced, but I have this theory that they're going to be poised
to make big money in a couple of years, from manufacturing nuclear power
plants.
Since the price of oil rocketed
on us, the United States is pumping an extra $1.6 trillion into the middle east
every year. (Yes,
trillion.)
That's a lot of money going to those Arabs we're trying to make hate us.
Normally imports are a wash, since the foreigners have to use the money --
eventually -- to buy American goods in return. But America doesn't actually
make anything any more. So instead, they're loaning that money back to us, or
buy our companies or real estate. Not exactly helping our export
picture.
At some point, we're going to
tire of this. I'm hoping it's before we run out of things to sell overseas in
exchange for oil from the Middle East and plastic crap from
China.
We can do without the plastic
stuff, but we can't do without energy. I have high hopes for nano-solar, but I
haven't figured out how to invest in it yet. But it's likely that we're also
going to start building nuke plants again. There are two companies that do
that: General Electric and Westinghouse (now owned by Toshiba (TOSBF) --
speaking of countries finding something to do with their excess dollars).
I may well buy Toshiba as
well.
