2 Fast 2 Furious: *1/2

The Fast and the Furious was a formula flick about street racing that somehow rose above its low goals and became a fun little film with an undeniable energy. Especially amazing since Paul Walker, the protagonist, seems to have no discernible acting talent beyond a prettyboy grin. Vin Diesel effortlessly stole every scene from him, though the racing scenes were the true focus of the movie.

Vin declined to show up for the sequel (perhaps because it would have made absolutely no sense?), so they replaced him with Tyrese, who -- surprise! -- effortlessly steals every scene from Paul Walker.

Since John Singleton (Boyz N the Hood: ****) directed, I hoped for something good to happen. Alas, while I expected the moronic plot and the bad acting, I had hoped that the stunts and intensity would make up for it.

2 bad.
