Assault on Precinct 13 (1976): ***1/2

This is John Carpenter's second flick, recently remade.

Carpenter also directed Halloween, The Thing, Big Trouble in Little China, Escape from New York, and lots more low budget fun crappy films. Assault on Precinct 13 is one of the better ones. A police station on its last evening before being decommissioned is terrorized by waves of relentless gang members. While there's nothing supernatural, the movie feels a lot more like a zombie movie than a gang movie -- the gangbangers just keep coming and coming and coming, no matter how many get shot.

I think it's interesting that the new one , instead of gang members, has dirty cops assaulting the station. That change has to say something about our current political climate, huh?

I haven't seen the new one yet.
