Seabiscuit: ****

Fine and well made film. The biggest flaw is that the movie peaks (thrillingly) with about 30 minutes to go, which makes the ending a bit of a letdown.

Whenever I see a movie based on fact, I put off learning the facts until after I see the movie, so as not to taint it too much when they play fast and loose with reality for dramatic purposes. Seabiscuit does just that, of course, but the facts aren't important enough for me to be offended in the slightest. Who cares how many races a horse won or lost 70 years ago?

A sure Oscar contender -- but it's been a relatively weak year so far.
