Clan Lord Monster AI

Clan Lord's monsters have the coolest intelligence of any game.

I thought I was pretty cool back in the day, when I was writing monsters, when I made critters that would circle around players, diving in and out to attack. And teleporting monsters that beamed behind players when approached. And monsters that cast flame on players, or necromancers who summoned hordes of skeletons and zombies.

The GMs, though, went way beyond.

But the ones who grab fallen players and drag them across bridges and through mazes to a central strongpoint? That's cool. Monsters who surround and defend spellcasters, but chase and follow players who approach, but will retreat if their ward gets hurt? Way cool. Monsters who cast sticky webs at players, even leading them while they're running? Yow.

Clan Lord's graphics might be from a previous century, but the game is still pretty awesome.
