The Trouble with Lichen

This is a 1960s sf book that explores how the discoverers of a longevity drug might treat their discovery. The options seem to be: Keep it secret so as not to disrupt society, or keep it secret while you build support for it so it isn't outlawed by Luddites.

Folks were more concerned with overpopulation in the 60s than now, obviously.

As our longevity increases, I just hope we can improve our minds, as well. Our brains get full as we get older, and I think it would be disappointing to be 200 years old if you're not still growing intellectually.
