Technology Blowed Up
My monitor made a loud popping noise this
morning, and now it doesn't power on. If I was to guess, I'd say it's a power
supply. It was a gigantic 1999 Mitsubishi 2020u that I bought for $799 some 5
or 6 years ago. I'm limping by on a crappy 19 inch Samsung LCD while I decide
what kind of new monitor to get. I probably won't repair the old one, but I'll
consider it.
Also, my trusty iPod hard
drive failed, one year and three months after I got it -- displeasing, since I
hardly ever used it after leaving Hong Kong. Apple offered a whopping 10%
discount on a new iPod if I trade it in. Whee. That pays for the sales tax. I
expect my computer products to last a lot longer than one year, especially with
light use. It seems like somebody would sell replacement hard drives for it,
but I haven't found them.
And lastly,
my Canon Powershot A85 inexplicably doesn't record movies any more. It still
takes still photos fine, but when I dial it to record movies -- a surprisingly
fun and handy feature! -- it just takes stills. I just figured I'd mention it
while complaining about all my stuff breaking. (I already whined about my PS2,
GameCube, and XBox, right?)
Sometimes
gadgets suck.
