lala.com -- Used CD Exchange

I've been using lala.com to trade used CDs for the past few weeks. It's cool!

If you're like me, you've got lots of old CDs that you never listen to any more. On lala.com, you list all the CDs you have but don't want, and also list all the ones you want but don't have. If somebody wants one of yours, lala lets you know, and if you want you can drop it in the mail to the person who wants it. It's out of your hair, and somebody else has something they want.

On the other hand, if somebody has something on your list, they mail it to you, and you pay lala $1.50. (They say $0.50 to cover postage, $0.20 to the artist traded, and $0.80 to them for running the thing.)

This morning I managed to get rid of "She's the Boss" by Mick Jagger. (What was I doing with that? Yuk!) One CD that's been clogging my collection for 23 years, inflicted on an unsuspecting Stones fan at no cost to me.

When somebody sends a CD I want, lala bills me $1.50. That's a fair price for a used CD, and I'm getting obscure stuff that you can never find, like Syd Barrett, Marc Almond, The Sugarcubes, and The The. So crappy CD + $1.50 = New CD.

I suppose the unscrupulous might even trade CDs they want to keep after they duplicate them -- but for the most part I suspect we all have so many hated CDs that that's hardly necessary.

If you want to try it, send me an email . If you sign up through my invite, I get a free t-shirt. (And Lord knows that's what I need more of. Ugh.)
