Zen Programming
The zen master programmer said to his student, "I
would like your opinion on a program I have
written."
"I would be happy to," said
the novice.
"First I must make a copy,"
the master explained, and he told the computer to duplicate his
folder.
They sat for a moment,
listening to the spinning drive. Suddenly the computer displayed a message:
"Operation failed. Disk is full. Abort, Retry, or
Ignore?"
The master chose to retry the
copy. Once more they listened to the drive and once more, "Operation failed.
Disk is full. Abort, Retry, or Ignore?" Again the master retried, and again the
operation failed.
As the master
prepared to retry yet again, the novice could contain himself no longer.
"There's not enough room on the disk!" he cried. "It's too
full!"
"No," said the master. "It is
your
mind
that is too full."
And the novice was
enlightened.
